A Patio or Decking Area

To begin your outdoor living space, you need a patio or decking area. While you could maybe start by putting things together on your garden, it won’t look half as sophisticated on grass. It always helps to have a nice bit of patio or decking that you can start on. You could DIY this yourself, or get a professional in to do it.

Waterproof/Resistant Seating and Cushions

Outdoor seating will ideally be waterproof or weather resistant. You don’t want to have to bring in this furniture when the weather takes a turn for the worst. A most, you want to be able to cover it up with a plastic cover to protect it. Your cushions should have waterproof covers on them too. Nobody likes mouldy, sopping wet furniture. Don’t worry about your furniture matching though; I find furniture always looks best mixed up. Mix up the styles and colours for a space that looks sophisticated but unique. All of the major home decor designers use this tip!

You’ll need tables if you want to create an outdoor living space. These are especially helpful when you want to set down your drinks, food, or reading material. It should be large enough so guests can do so too. You may even want designer side tables at the side of each chair, so everybody seated has their own personal surface. Your tables will ideally be weather resistant too, so you may want them to be a special kind of wood or glass.

An Umbrella

A large umbrella is the perfect addition to any outdoor living space. This will shield you and your guests when it’s too sunny, or protect you when it’s just spitting and you don’t want to go inside yet.

So you can continue entertaining from day to night, you’ll need some lighting. This can be any kind of lighting you choose, from large solar powered lights dotted around the garden, to fairy lights. You can also use an outdoor wood burner, as this will provide light and warmth. You can even use some models to cook.

A Mirror

Why not? This will give your outdoor living space a quirky twist, as well as create a feature point. You’ll have your very own outdoor living room! I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a sturdy surface to hang it on though.

Of course, a sophisticated outdoor living space is no good if you haven’t got a great garden to go with it. These tips will help you. I hope you found this useful!
