How to Add A Little Personal Flair to Your Home or Room

How to Add A Little Personal Flair to Your Home or Room

Whether you have an entire home or apartment that you can decorate to your own specifications or you simply have one room in a shared house that you can make completely your own, there are some things that you can do to help you feel more comfortable and at home. Think beyond the normal trinkets and things that you use as home decor.

Anything can be turned into art and used to decorate your space. Here are some great ideas for turning everyday items into decorations for your room or home that will make your space just as unique as you are.

Add Some Buttons

Whether you have your own band or your own business, why not decorate your home with a little shameless self promotion. There are places where you can get great deals on things like buttons and stickers. If you own your own fridge, want to decorate your laundry facilities, or want some flair for your computer, stickers are a great way to add that look. You don’t have to just use your own, you can also collect them from other bands and businesses.

Buttons aren’t just for your clothing anymore. Consider decorating a curtain with some, or put some on lampshades. They will give your room a more pop-cultured look, and add some accent pieces that are sure to strike up conversations with guests.

Turn Clothes into Art

If you have old shirts or other clothing that doesn’t fit anymore but you just can’t seem to let it go, you can always use it to create some interesting art. Make a throw pillow or a couch potato blankets with scraps of clothing that you don’t plan to use.

If you have some concert or advertisement tshirts that don’t fit anymore you can cut the art off them, frame it, and hang it on your wall. You’ll have unique art that you aren’t likely to see anywhere else, and your space will have a feel of home to you because it is decorated with things that really do mean something to you.

Save Your Favorite Articles

Another creative way to come up with art for your walls is to save articles out of magazines and newspapers that touch you or catch your eye, then frame them to hang on your walls. If you get a lot of magazines in the mail you might also want to start clipping items from them that catch your fancy and turn them into collage art to hang on your walls.

Some people, if you own your place, have even gotten as creative to wallpaper their walls with such things. You want it to look unique though, rather than creepy. A wall full of magazines eyeballs could even creep out the most dedicated horror movie fan after awhile!
