How to Design a Simple and Elegant Home Office

Working from home is everyone’s dream. However, it’s not as easy as many people imagine it to be. Working from home requires immense discipline, commitment, and, of course, a home office. A home office can offer a number of functions. For starters, you will need one to meet clients for business purposes if necessary. Otherwise, you could end up inviting strangers into your home, and possibly spend a lot of money to meet people at a city hotel. Also, home offices will give you the private space you need to concentrate and get work done. You might not notice it now, but homes are full of distractions. When you work, you will need to keep your mind off the pets and the stove to meet the deadlines. So once you decide to have a home office, here are several tips for designing and decorating it:

Get Semi-Formal Furniture

Regular office furniture will look out of place at your home office, and the usual “homey” furniture will look too casual. Therefore, get semi-formal furniture that is comfortable but elegant, like accent chair Sydney products. Choose dark colours like black and brown instead of comfortable, muted colours like cream. The furniture should complement the rest of the interior decor of the room. Do not cram the room with furniture. There should be enough space between each piece of furniture in the room. Plan your budget carefully so you don’t spend too much on the furniture and too little on other items.

Replace Curtains

If you need curtains, make sure they are dark coloured, satin curtains usually found at offices. Otherwise, Venetian or bamboo blinds will be much more suited to your home office. Make sure whatever you choose lets you control the amount of light that comes into the room. Sometimes, you might want to shut out the light, such as if you are giving a presentation to potential investors. Other times, you will need plenty of light in the room. Therefore, think about your needs and how light should enter the room before buying curtains or blinds.

Get a Mini Fridge

Do not plan to make runs to the kitchen when you get hungry. If you do, you will be easily distracted and you will end up wasting a lot of time. So, keep small snacks to munch on during stressful tasks in a mini fridge and acupboard in your office. You can designate a small area for eating and making coffee. This is important to save time when you are working from home.

Be Space Efficient

Plan to make the best use of available space instead of breaking down walls to expand room size. If you use space-efficient storage shelves and cupboards, you shouldn’t have a problem with space in your home office. Use ceiling shelves, under-the-desk drawers, and mini cupboards to increase storage space in your home office. If you digitize your work and use cloud servers, you will have little need to store files and other paper items. You will also save a lot of money spent on paper by going green.

The above design ideas should let you create your ideal home office. Once all the decorating is done, let the kids and the pets know that your home office is not their playground. You have to consider about this only if you haven’t already, partition your home office from the rest of the house.
